Many know that Silvia Desmond has been a massage therapist since 2002. But did you know that prior to entering the world of health care practitioners Silvia was a makeup artist working in the TV and film industry? One of Silvia’s gigs was working at CBC for the morning show, late evening news, Hockey Night In Canada with Don Cherry (Awesome guy) and Mr. Dressup. Silvia then segued into the retail and corporate world of cosmetic sales yet after 9 years she did not find this as rewarding anymore.
Silvia did a complete 180 turn and went to massage therapy school in Toronto Ontario at ICT Kikkawa College of Massage Therapy, taking the 2200 hour program. "I wanted a problem solving job that was going to fulfill me inside and out. I always had an interest in the body and massage therapy and I’ve found that helping people is so rewarding."
After graduation in 2002 Silvia and her husband Tony packed their bags and moved to Canmore Alberta, where she became a RMT (Registered Massage Therapist). Over the past 18 years Silvia has worked alongside Chiropractors and physiotherapists. In 2018 she moved to back to Alberta after a short time in Penticton BC, forever calling Cochrane their home.
Additional certification programs include Classical Pilates Teacher Training in 2005 (after being a Pilates student for 4 years). "I just love how Pilates makes me feel. Exploring my body in movement without judgement. And incorporating that into my Massage practice for my clients is a bonus to my practice."
During her spare time Silvia enjoys her weekly classes at Crossfit Cochrane, running with her dog Chief Takoda, water colour painting and her new artistic venture, pottery.
Silvia is a Certified in the following: PMA Certified Pilates Teacher, Kundalini Yoga, Myofascial Cupping, Craniosacral Therapy, Graston Therapy, Pre/Postnatal Massage, Reflexology. Registered member of the NHPC and PMA.
